Pastoral Council

Tim Bayly

Since 1996, Tim has been the pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd. A teaching elder of the Presbyterian Church in America, Tim also served as the Exec. Dir. of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood from 1996-2000. He has the B.A. from University of Wisconsin (Madison) and the M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Tim and Mary Lee have been married thirty-four years and have been blessed with five children and eight grandchildren.

Dave (Max) Curell

Earning his B.A. in Bible from Asbury College in 1984, Dave Curell has served as associate pastor of CGS since 2002. In the past, Dave has served as a church planter and pastor in Toledo, Ohio, and since joining the CGS pastoral staff, his responsibilities have included preaching, church leadership, and small groups, among many others. Dave and his wife Annie live in Bloomington, IN, and count their three children as God's greatest blessings to them.

Stephen Baker

Earning a Master of Ministry degree from the Reformed Baptist Pastoral Training Institute of Worcester, Massachusetts, Stephen Baker is an associate pastor of CGS, where he has served since 2003, and has been Dean and lead instructor at ClearNote Pastor's College since 2005. Stephen, his wife Sebra, and their five (soon to be six) children make their home in Bloomington, IN, and provide much fellowship and instruction for all who pass through their home.

Tim Wegener

A lifelong resident of southern Indiana, Tim Wegener earned his B.S. from Columbia Bible College in 1985. Now a remodeling contractor, he and his wife Anne have been blessed by God with nine children, all of whom love and serve God in the area. Tim thoroughly enjoys a variety of outdoor activities.

Jürgen von Hagen

Having earned his PhD in economics in Germany in 1985, Jürgen von Hagen taught economics at Indiana University from 1987 to 1992 and still retains an affiliation with the Kelley School of Business. Together with his wife, Ilse, and two of his four children, he is now a resident of Bad Honnef, Germany, and teaches at the University of Bonn. Jürgen became a believer while in Bloomington during the late 1980s. He is a member of the Free Evangelical Church of Bonn and, for several years, was a pastor of a small church near Bonn. He is currently working on a church plant in his home town.

Joseph Bayly

A graduate of Vanderbilt University and ClearNote Pastor's College, Joseph is the pastor of ClearNote Church, a new church plant on the west side of Indianapolis. Joseph and his wife, Heidi, have one son, Tate, and currently live in Speedway. Joseph's desire is to see God use this new church to call many in the city of Indianapolis to repent of their sin, believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and bear fruit in keeping with repentance.

Dave (Max) Curell

David Canfield

Graduating from Covenant College in 1972 and from Indiana University in 1983 with a Doctorate in Music Composition, David DeBoor Canfield started and has for years owned the world's largest classical LP business, and in his spare time has nourished a deep and abiding love of theology and church history. His most recent project is a new book, "Man vs. Lust", which was born out of his decade-long mentoring of young men with sexual addictions. David also serves as an elder at Church of the Good Shepherd and an instructor at ClearNote Pastors College, and lives in Bloomington, IN, with his wife Carole.

Wayne Huck

Wayne received an M.M. degree in Music Theory from Indiana University in1989. Following a renewal in his faith, he left the Ph.D. program to follow the Lord's calling to lead his family and serve the church. Since 1994, he has been employed by Indiana University managing computer server and network support. Wayne has served as elder of Church of the Good Shepherd since its founding in 1996. He and his wife Joyce live in Bloomington, IN, with their five children, whom they count as immeasurable blessings from God.

Lawrence Howell

Graduating from IU with a B.A. and D.D.S., Lawrence Howell has cared for patients at his dental practice in Bedford, IN since 1984. He is also an elder of Church of the Good Shepherd, and lives with his wife Janet in Bloomington, IN.

Douglas Ummel

A true southern gentleman, Doug Ummel graduated from Taylor University in 1999. Now in Bloomington, IN, Doug serves the church faithfully as a deacon. He and his wife, Heather, count themselves blessed to be the parents of five children who make their home delightful.

Joshua Congrove

Graduating from Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI) with a B.A. in Latin and Mathematics, Josh then came to Indiana University in 2003. Graduating in 2005 with an M.A. in Classical Studies, Josh is now a PhD candidate in the same field at IU, where his current research interests center on rhetoric and patristics, St. Augustine in particular. Despite this, you're just as likely to hear him talking about music, theology, or Lord of the Rings.
