Recently I read the book of Isaiah, and I noticed how God had become tired of all the sacrifices and offerings that were being offered up to Him. He had become burdened by the worship of the Jews after years and years of worship led by the Levites because they were offering sacrifices for their sins without truly repenting of them. They did not love God. And so God said these words, recorded in Isaiah 29:

Today it is popular to talk about ’social justice’. I’d rather talk about ‘charity’. (I’ll write a post explaining why next week.) Charity is a biblical word that has lost most of its true meaning today. Being charitable doesn’t mean pretending that liars are telling the truth. Nor does it mean giving money to United Way. In fact, it doesn’t have anything to do with liars or money, except tangentially. Charity is love. So doing the work of charity is doing the work of loving others...
